CSCA Fund-Raising from Sam Star, our fearless leader We want to gratefully thank the families who have contributed to the Enrichment Fee and the Center School Annual Fund Campaign. The money raised allows us to support the education of all Center School students. If you have not yet contributed to the Enrichment Fee or the Annual Fund Campaign, please make your check payable to the CSCA and send it to school with your student, or mail it to: CSCA The Center School 305 Harrison St. Seattle, WA 98109 This Week at the Center School What, You Thought This Would Be A Normal Week? A four-day week means a shift in the schedule -- not quite a disruption in the Force, but not business as usual either. Tuesday: periods 2-4-6, Wednesday: periods 1-3-5, Thursday: periods 1-3-5, Friday: periods 2-4-6. The Regular Stuff Homework Club meets after school Tuesday and Thursday. Coffee with Ms Britsova Friday 10 am at the Center House Starbucks What The Big World Is Like Senior Alumni Brunch is this coming Wednesday 4 January. If you've signed on to work, or to donate something tasty, you know what to do. Otherwise, if you'd like to stick your head in the door of Conference Room A and hear some alumni stories, the event starts at school at 9:35 Coming Attractions and Past Accomplishments CSCA Meet for January CSCA meeting on Tuesday, January 10th from 6:30 - 8:30 pm at the school. The Center School Community Association (aka the CSCA) is the school's Parent-Teacher-Student Association. We meet on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. If you have any questions, comments and/or suggestions for us, please contact the CSCA president, Sam Star at: president@csca.thecenterschool.net. Oksana Britsova, the school principal attends most of the meetings and is available for questions. One of the items on the January meeting agenda is to review and possible revise the CSCA by-laws. There is a proposal to permit Center School students, teachers and staff to be voting members of the CSCA. Currently only dues-paying parents are permitted to vote. Please attend the meeting and add your voice to the discussion. Local Donors Fill Our Stockings The CSCA was thrilled to accept a $450 contribution to the school from Magnolia Chiropractic and Massage on behalf of the Center School! In early October, chiropractic doctors Josh and Marty Penner (twin brothers) organized the 1st annual Magnolia 5K and 10 K fun walk and/or run. Participants raised money to support the public schools on Queen Anne and Magnolia. In December, Dr. Josh Penner attended the PTA meeting of the seven local schools and presented each Parent-Teacher Association a check for $450. A big thank you to the Penners for their civic minded efforts. Magnolia Chiropractic and Massage is located at 1150 W. Government Way. Delicious Thanks! Peggy Morgan sends love and thanks to her valiant crew for the Staff Appreciation Lunch last month, both those who worked at the event and those who sent tasty treats. They also serve who stand and bake. We Need a Volunteer for Volunteers The CSCA is seeking a new Volunteer Coordinator: Jessica Wesch, our very helpful volunteer coordinator is moving on, as her daughter Tess will be taking classes full-time through Running Start. The volunteer coordinator periodically contacts parents who have offered to volunteer for a variety of activities such as staff appreciation events, fund-raising, coordinating art projects, tutoring, evening event coordination, speaking at an Open House tour for prospective students, etc., etc. If you would be willing to step up as the CSCA volunteer coordinator, please contact Sam Star at president@csca.thecenterschool.net. Seniors Raise Money and Do Good -- Simultaneously The senior class of 2012 has launched their fundraiser for graduation day and night events. We will be having a Service-a-Thon work party with the Port of Seattle working on a shoreline public access park on the Duwamish River March 31st. The CSCA Senior Events Committee is in need of parents who can help plan graduation, and chaperone this fundraiser, please contact Paul Dieter 206 683 8713 or csca@me.com to get involved. Outside the Center School Seattle Theatre Group Internships STG, the producer who runs the Paramount, the Moore and the Neptune theaters, is looking for interns to work with their Education and Community Program departments, facilitating meet the artist events, masterclasses and workshops for Seattle-area students. You need to be able to write and proofread, have good verbal communication skills and, most important, want to know more about how arts programming gets produced. Applications for Winter/Spring are due 15 January. Gotta Dance? The 5th Avenue Theater is running two musical theater dance classes on 8 January with Mo Brady, one learning choreography from the Broadway musical "The Addams Family," and another working on callback audition skills, working with materials from The Book of Mormon, The Addams Family and Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark." The Museum of History and Industry is running its (second) annual "History Is ___" film competition -- five-minute films both serious and silly on what history "is" to you. The competition is open to all ages and experiences, but they're offering a Youth Meetup evening on 15 January at 6 pm to talk about the competition, and hear from professionals in the local film industry, They've got snacks, and a double feature showing of "Mean Girls vs Fight Club" after the chat, hosted by SIFF Future Wave at the new SIFF digs at the Seattle Center. The whole thing is free and fun -- for more information check here Last, But Not Least First Thursday Don't forget 5 January is "First Thursday" -- lots of galleries around town are open all evening, not just the nexus in Pioneer Square. The Museum of History and Industry is still running its Now and Then show in its Montlake facility, will it closes in June to get ready for the big move to South Lake Union -- it's worth checking out. A New Pas de Deux Following the tradition of other great popular culture combinations, a successor to The Wizard of Oz and Dark Side of the Moon. Laurel and Hardy and Santana.
