View The BLAST Online | View BLAST Archives 5-11 September 2011 We're still having a few technical glitches with the Blast softward, so here's another non-html edition. Apologies for the kludgy look, but the news is still the news. Those of us born and raised in Seattle know this -- the weather around here only really gets good once school is back in session. So don’t put the sunscreen away just yet. In the meantime, enjoy the week as we all try to find the right rhythm for the school year. sandi kurtz submitarticle@csca.thecenterschool.net 206-523-6553 Center School Connections The Center School - http://www.centerschoolseattle.org/ Center School Community Association (aka PTA) - http://csca.thecenterschool.net/ Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Center-School-Community-Association-CSCA/100811430005511 Remember, to unsubscribe to this newsletter, click on the link at the bottom of the page to get to the CSCA website. Dutch Poster Artists The Vera Project is hosting Mirjam Dijkema and Kunny Van der Ploeg, silkscreen artists from VERA Groningen “the Holland all-ages venue that served as the template, namesake, and inspiration for our cultural hub here in Seattle.” The pair have curated an exhibit of over one hundred VERA Groningen show posters from the last twenty-four years, including some from the golden age of alternative rock showcasing talent like Sonic Youth, Beat Happening, Pearl Jam, Pavement, and Nirvana (from their 1989 tour with Tad!). The exhibit is will be open to the public during Vera shows and their regular office hours, but Dijkema and Van der Ploeg will be speaking about their work on Tuesday 6 September at the Vera at 6 pm.

Last, But Not Least Alas, I already missed giving you the heads-up on International Vulture Awareness Day (last Saturday). We will have to content ourselves with the upcoming Hawaiian Cultural Festival at the Seattle Center Sunday 11 September. Music, dance, art and food, because after the first week back at school we can all use a little aloha.
