CSCA 2011-2012 - The BLAST | The Center School Newsletter 2011-2012
21 September 2011 UN International Day of Peace

This mid-week message is usually just a reminder that, if you have news you’d like to circulate to the school community, you need to send it to me by Friday afternoon.  But at the beginning of the school year there’s a lot of stuff coming at us all right away, so please do look at the “and more” below.  And don’t forget to send me your news items for the next edition.

Comments, questions, etc?  Just ask…

And More...

Coffee with Michael DeBell

Seattle School Board Director (and representative for the Center School’s district) Michael DeBell will answer it all for you, or at least let you ask some questions, at an informal community meeting Saturday 24 September at Cafe Appasionata, 4001 21st Avenue West (next to Fisherman’s Terminal), 9-11 am.

School Board Smack Down

More news coming in on the format for this debate sponsored by the Stranger, Save Seattle Schools and Washington Bus. KIRO radio personality Dave Ross will moderate, Lauren McGuire (Seattle Council PTSA president) and Melissa Westbrook (Save Seattle Schools blogger) will assist, and we-the-people will vote on the debate winners via text message, so charge your cell phones before coming down to Town Hall (1119 - 8th Ave) on Wednesday 28 September at 7:30.   The event is free, but you need a print-at-home ticket from Stranger Tickets.

No word yet if there will be a talent category in the competition, but I wouldn’t be surprised.

Love! Murder! Disfunctional Relationships!

Center School's first Night At the Opera will be 'Carmen' coming up October 13th at McCaw Hall. This is said to be  the most popular opera of all time, and Seattle Opera is allowing TCS students, friends and family members to have guaranteed seats to the dress rehearsal for only 8 dollars a ticket! Look for the sign up sheet and further information in the Commons.

Center School Families Pizza Party, October 6

Please join us!!  Students and their families are cordially invited to a community-building pizza party hosted by your Center School Community Association (CSCA) on Thursday, October 6, at 6:00 pm.  This will be an opportunity to relax and have fun, identify other TCSers from your neighborhood, and learn more about our school.  We'll provide pizza and entertainment, and there will be a bakesale for desserts.  We can always use help with these events, so if you're interested in volunteering or donating a bakesale item, please contact Jessica Wesch at jesamama@yahoo.com.  Please join us and help create a strong and connected Center School community!

Dag Hammarskjold Would Be Proud

The Center School chapter of Model United Nations is now meeting at lunch on Fridays. There is the trip to San Fransisco, which is available to people who have already done one year of MUN and WASMUN (the state conference), which is available to everyone.  Andy Bell is the faculty advisor -- for more information contact him at ambell@seattleschools.org, or Amalie Dieter, the student advisor Amalie Dieter at ajdieter@hotmail.com

Do you have an idea for a BLAST article?

We want to know what you know, and we want to know what you need.  Send us your specific content, or your ideas for content.  If you have Blast content to get out this week - please submit it by Friday at 3 pm.  The Blast goes out late Sunday night, and covers school life for the following week.

Things we like to know:

- School News, in and out of the building
- Opportunities for Center School students (volunteering, classes, performances, etc)
- Student, staff and faculty accomplishments beyond the school.
- And the ever-favorite “misc.”

By now you’ve seen the motley collection of stuff that qualifies for the Blast -- if you’ve got something that fits that very elastic category, send it in.  Make sure you tell me what’s going on, where and when it’s happening, and how to get in touch with the people involved, if participation is the goal.  And let me know how long you think it should run.

To submit news, events, or calendar items to be included in the Blast, send an email with subject line "News" to submitarticle@csca.thecenterschool.net"
