And More...

Northwest Bookfest -- The Revived Edition
Not really a zombie, but back from the almost dead, Northwest Bookfest is moving to the eastside, but the keeping the same combination of author readings, writing workshops, geeky panel discussions and, the best part always, tables full of books! Saturday and Sunday, 1-2 October, at Peter Kirk Park, Kirkland (202 Third Street) -- doors open at 10. For more information check out http://www.northwestbookfest2011.com/

Volunteer as a Stage Manager -- Tell Others What to Do
Seattle Public Theater, the resident company at the Bathhouse Theater at Greenlake, needs a stage manager for its high school ensemble's production of "Anon(ymous)," starting Monday 3 October. Rehearsals are Mondays and Wednesdays, 6-8:30 pm, with additional rehearsal time during tech week -- performances are 4-6, 11-12 November. Many Center School students have performed at SPT and lived to tell about it. For more information, or to sign on to the production, contact Kyna Shilling at TD@seattlepublictheater.org

Talk Back to the Facilities Committee
Seattle Public Schools will host three community meetings in an effort to share information and ask for feedback about the district's "Intermediate Term Capacity Management" plan. With the student population projected to rise, and budgets not expected to keep pace, the district needs to use what it already has wisely. As well as asking volunteers to sit on the committee (see related blurb below) they want feedback from us -- if you've got an opinion, bring it to one of these meetings.
* Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011, 6:30-8 p.m. at Mercer Middle School Library
* Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, 6:30-8 p.m. at Madison Middle School Library
* Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, 6:30-8 p.m. at Hamilton Middle School Library

School Buildings, and What Goes in Them
The district needs volunteers for their new "Integrated Facilities and Capacity Management Advisory Committee" as it begins short and long-term planning for district facilities. They're looking for people with some expertise and/or significant interest in planning, and they'll be working with district staff on issues including demographics, capital improvements and special instructional programs. For more information on the committee, and directions on applying, click here. Community volunteers sought

Do you have an idea for a BLAST article?
We want to know what you know, and we want to know what you need. Send us your specific content, or your ideas for content. If you have Blast content to get out this week - please submit it by Friday at 3 pm. The Blast goes out late Sunday night, and covers school life for the following week.

Things we like to know:
- School News, in and out of the building
- Opportunities for Center School students (volunteering, classes, performances, etc)
- Student, staff and faculty accomplishments beyond the school.
- And the ever-favorite "misc."

By now you've seen the motley collection of stuff that qualifies for the Blast -- if you've got something that fits that very elastic category, send it in. Make sure you tell me what's going on, where and when it's happening, and how to get in touch with the people involved, if participation is the goal. And let me know how long you think it should run.

To submit news, events, or calendar items to be included in the Blast, send an email with subject line "News" to submitarticle@csca.thecenterschool.net.
