Mid-week heads-up. There's coffee at Starbucks today, pizza at school tomorrow night, snacks at the school board debate -- it's a potluck out there. So send your news along with your recipes.

And More

Caffeinate for the Cause
from Community & Parents for Public Schools
Visit any King County Starbucks on October 5th (yes that's today) and support local classrooms! DonorsChoose helps you donate directly to teachers, and their partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Starbucks, and the Community Center for Education Results means that you can turn your morning coffee into cash for classrooms! Spend any amount at Starbucks and receive a $10 DonorsChoose gift card, while supplies last -- and they're sure to go fast!

CSCA Family Dinner
Well, it's a larger family than you normally feed, which is why it's at school, and we supply the pizza. A chance to meet other Center School families, ask questions you haven't gotten answered yet, and indulge your sweet tooth with bake sale treats. Thursday 6 October, 6 pm. For full details and volunteer opportunities, visit the All School Community Pizza Party web page.

School Board Candidate Forum
Community and Parents for Public Schools (aka CPPS in these acronymical times) is hosting a "Parent Friendly" event (aka you can bring your kids along) with the current candidates for school board. They've all said they'll come, so you should come too, and hear what they've got to say. Monday 10 October, 7-8:30 pm, Washington Middle School (2101 S. Jackson. For more information, check out the website CPPS

2e (Twice Exceptional) Parent Group
The 2e Parent Group is a support group for parents/guardians of kids in Seattle Public Schools advanced learning programs (ALO, Spectrum, APP) who also have 504 plans and/or Special Ed IEPs. These students confront a unique set of challenges. The first meeting of this academic year will be Monday 10 October, 7pm, Lincoln High School library (4400 Interlake Ave. N) Attending this meeting will be 2 guests from the Advanced Learning office: Dr. Robert Vaughan, Manager of Advanced Learning and Roger Daniels, Consulting Teacher (knowledgeable about 2e). This is an important and rare opportunity for 2e folks to speak directly with the advanced learning office to identify concerns and issues for our kids and their schools. This meeting is open to all parents/guardians. For more information, please contact Stephanie Bower stbower@comcast.net.

Do you have an idea for a BLAST article?
We want to know what you know, and we want to know what you need. Send us your specific content, or your ideas for content. If you have Blast content to get out this week - please submit it by Friday at 3 pm. The Blast goes out late Sunday night, and covers school life for the following week.

Things we like to know:
- School News, in and out of the building
- Opportunities for Center School students (volunteering, classes, performances, etc)
- Student, staff and faculty accomplishments beyond the school.
- And the ever-favorite "misc."

By now you've seen the motley collection of stuff that qualifies for the Blast -- if you've got something that fits that very elastic category, send it in. Make sure you tell me what's going on, where and when it's happening, and how to get in touch with the people involved, if participation is the goal. And let me know how long you think it should run.

To submit news, events, or calendar items to be included in the Blast, send an email with subject line "News" to submitarticle@csca.thecenterschool.net.
