This Week at Center School

The Community Building Committee is having its first meeting tonight (Monday night, details below) -- in the future we’ll get that notice to you all earlier, so you can make a plan, but if you have some free time this evening, it’s an excellent way to network with other school famiilies.   This week is a regular schedule but beware -- the two weeks after that are unusual.

First Meeting of the Community Building Committee (CBC) on September 20th

The CBC meets approximately once a month in the evening to plan how best to help support school functions and foster connections among parents, students and staff.  Join us at 7:00 on Monday, September 20 at Uptown Espresso in Belltown, 2504 4th Avenue (4th and Wall).  At the first meeting, we’ll discuss support for upcoming events.  Call or email Julie Vergeront, jvergeront@yahoo.com, 206-459-1862 if you will be coming or if you are interested in helping with the CBC but can't make it that night.  Or, just show up at Uptown Espresso on September 20th.   Even if you have  a couple of hours to contribute, the CBC can use your help.

Volunteer Time

Thank you to all who have completed the CSCA paperwork!  If you have not or if you are looking to volunteer at TCS, please take a moment to complete the volunteer information page, available at http://www.centerschoolseattle.org/involved/default.html or contact Audrey at centerschoolvolunteers@gmail.com with when and how you would like to support TCS and CSCA.  Additional volunteer needs are listed below.  We can't do it without you!

Front Office Help

During school hours, but flexible scheduling; one time or on a regular basis.

A great opportunity you can shape to your daytime schedule.

Help still needed!  Ms Libby is asking for assistance in the front office everyday for the next couple weeks.  Whether you can come on a regular basis or just an hour – ANY SUPPORT will be greatly appreciated.  Please contact Ms Libby directly at 206 252-9850 or easimeon@seattleschools.org to let her know when to expect you.

Breakfast and Lunch Program

Once a week (or more!), AM or Noon; regular commitment requested

Work or live near The Center School? Have a free day to volunteer?  Ms Wyn is asking for adult volunteers to assist with the school breakfasts and lunches program.  Food is provided by the district.  Volunteer will set up distribution area and accept payments. Time commitment is generally 30-45 minutes in the morning and/or 15-30 minutes at lunch.  See the school schedule for more specific times (http://www.centerschoolseattle.org/info/schedule.html). Please email centerschoolvolunteers@gmail.com to sign up or talk to Ms Wyn at school.  Our hungry students, and hard working staff,  will greatly appreciate it!

Tracking Parent Volunteer Hours

We are lucky to have many active parents here but we always need more help. If you are able to help in any way, it would be much appreciated.  We also started last year, logging in our parent volunteer hours. This data could be helpful if any funding opportunities arises, to show what an active parent community we have here at the Center School. Last year we logged in over 1700 hours.

It has been a busy 2 weeks in getting new students orientated and also setting systems up for the new school year. If you spent some time volunteering for the Center School, then don't forget to advise TCS volunteer hours monitor, Nancy Hom. There are 3 easy ways to log in your hours:

1- Send a email to skallywag@comcast.net of your hours/date and what volunteer activity was performed. She will record your time into the master log.

2- Ask for a log sheet available through Nancy at above email address or from Libby at the front desk. PLease look in the CSCA mailbox for extra copies.

3- If you are at the Center School, simply log in your hours at the clip board in the CSCA mailbox. She will collect the sheets once a month.

Thanks again for supporting the Center School

Nancy Hom
