Budget

Enrichment Fees—Sam Star

Enrichment Fee will be collected by CSCA at the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year.

$150 per student—This includes current “activity fees” as well as additional money that will be collected by CSCA rather than the school.

Fees collected next year will be for next years budget. This is a shift to a “spend as you go” budget. The hope is more “buy in” from the families with this new Enrichment Fee as each family will receive a direct benefit from the Fee.

Principal Oksana Britsova prefers that the CSCA collect and disperse this money as it will be more efficiently handled by the CSCA.

CSCA will still have direct giving campaign as well as House Parties, but the new fee should offset the need for so many labor intensive fundraisers that are difficult for a small school like Center.

The hope is to simplify for the families, this is what it takes to make Center School.  Parents (CSCA) will contact families that haven’t paid and will gently encourage them to pay what they can.

This is not CSCA membership dues.

By October of next year, CSCA will know whether this shift to a fee based fundraising model is working or not and can plan accordingly.

The budget reflects what Oksana & the staff have requested to augment and improve Center School.

Paul—We should talk to a tax accountant about whether it is tax deductable simply because they write check to CSCA.

Liz—Will call Salmon Bay and find out how they do it, and look at their form.

Center School Budget Shortfall & Future of AP Biology

Motion presented to dip into CSCA reserves to change CSCA budget line item for science teacher from $7,000 to $17,000  in order to provide another section of AP Biology for next year, presented by Liz Wolk.

Unless the CSCA steps up and makes up the difference, AP Biology will not be offered next year and many Seniors who need the second lab science to meet requirements for many colleges, will not be ready.

Taking the class at Community College is not workable since the lab science classes meet every day.

Center School is a college prep school, therefore students and parents expect that the college prep classes required will be offered.

Approving this money for AP Biology will mean raising more money for next year to fund other important items in the CSCA budget for next year.

Motion on the floor to change CSCA budget line item for science teacher from $7,000 to $17,000 seconded by Margaret Chodos-Irvine.
